Cuttyhunk Model Boat Regatta

Join us for the second annual Cuttyhunk Model Boat Regattas: July 21 and August 18, 2012!

Following a variation on the rules established in the 1880s by the Naushon-based Bennet Yacht Club, the Cuttyhunk model boats are launched from a start line created by small boats rafted together in our harbor.  Three heats are run.

A reception and announcement of the top 8 finishers from the combined heats follow each regatta.  The perpetual trophy (on display in the Museum) is presented at the July and August Cuttyhunk Yacht Club party the week following each regatta.

The model boat kits are simple to assemble and paint.  Each 12” racing sloop kit includes, full assembly instructions, a solid cedar hull, 2 nylon cloth sails, (mainsail and jib), a painted zinc keel, mast, set of racing stripes, and all necessary hardware. It also comes with a sailor’s handbook of knots, sailing tips, terminology, and a sailing lesson.

You can purchase a model boat kit for $30 (a great discount from the suggested retail of $46)

     1.  At the CHS Museum Shop

     2.  By going to the contact page on this website and sending your request to

Kit-making workshops will be offered at the CHS Museum the Wednesday afternoon before each regatta (Wednesdays, July 18 and August 15.)  You will be able to paint and rig your model boat in one afternoon!
