Island as Muse
Drawn from the permanent collection of the Cuttyhunk Historical Society, Island as Muse featured over 50 works of art, including paintings, watercolors, drawings, wood carvings, shell mosaics, ceramics, and needlework dating from the 19th century to the present. Of the 33 artists represented in the exhibition, 23 have direct ties to the islands, either born, lived, or worked here; the rest were introduced to the islands by friends and family. Each work of art tells a story about life on the Elizabeth Islands and all draw inspiration from the ever-changing natural and built landscape.
Below you will find artwork that was part of the exhibit at the Museum of the Elizabeth Islands during 2022-2024.
